Our Philosophy
The farm should be seen as an ecosystem in its own right, and that our striving should be to move towards building and maintaining plant and animal communities, which are ecologically suited to its unique combination of soil, climate and place. —Patrick Holden
The Four E’s
For some time, Bill and Barbara have defined SUSTAINABLE FARMING as the Four E’s —
E - Environmentally Sustainable
E - Economically Sustainable
E - Emotionally Sustainable
E - Equitably Sustainable
We have been striving to attain these goals at Windrose Farm for nearly 30 years and are very close on most, but short on some. Such a vision requires careful and thoughtful planning.
We are deeply attached to this land and the cultures who have shared what nature provides. Our love of this land has been long in coming and made ever more clear as we consider the future of Windrose. Too few people get to become a physical, spiritual part of nature. Our wish is for many more to have the experience we have had at such a place as Windrose Farm.
A vision of like minded lovers of the earth is paramount to its success in short and long term.
—Bill and Barbara Spencer
